Key Principles of Success Working with a Marketer
The marketer is the fastest growing position in the agency channel. After all, a good marketer is a revenue generator.
But a lot of marketers don’t work out.
Why? My observation is the following:
- Lack of common expectations.
- Are they working on Customer Acquisition or Customer Lifetime Value? Where in ACOR is their focus?
- No clear objectives or work products.
- The principal getting in the way and slowing down progress.
- Lack of clear understanding of the skill level and capabilities of the marketer.
Steps for Success
- Meet weekly and collaboratively.
- Be clear on where they will focus on ACOR.
- Understand their skill level and breadth of capabilities. (Even the best don’t do everything.)
- Ask the marketer to report on what’s working and what’s not - and any significant trends.
- Be aware of your own shortcomings in understanding marketing.
